It is not uncommon for unexpected objects to end up inside people’s bodies. Magnets, chargers, lollipops, and even orange peels found their way into people’s bodies and got stuck there, as per the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Moreover, objects stuck inside bodies also led to many visits to the emergency room in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports it was the ninth most common reason for unintentional injuries, with almost 278,000 U.S. adults needing medical attention.

Dr. Marc Siegel, a clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, revealed that over half of these incidents involved sex toys.

Another reason for these ER visits is that people sometimes accidentally poke themselves with things, especially in their noses, ears, and mouths. This can lead to serious injuries, as explained by Siegel.

Siegel says he once treated a ten-year-old patient who was in a lot of pain due to a blocked nasal passage. Siegel eventually discovered that the cause was a battery the child had put up its nose. Fortunately, the battery didn’t leak, and doctors were able to safely remove it, explained the professor to Fox News Digital.

Foreign objects stuck in people’s bodies, classified by orifice

In December 2022, a blogger on Defector compiled a list of foreign objects found in the CPSC database, sorted by the body part in which they were found.

Among the objects discovered in people’s ears were a cufflink, wet tissues, a plastic sword, an insect, a rock, a lollipop, a charger, a piece of an ice cream cone, a pushpin, a pencil eraser, and even a piece from the game Battleship.

Some people even managed to accidentally get liquid substances into their ears—for instance, lighter fluid, candle wax, and hydrogen peroxide were among the fluids found in ears, as reported by Fox News.

People also managed to get certain peculiar objects stuck in their noses. These included gum wrappers, a used match, magnets, rice, candy hearts, yarn, jewels, gummy worms, orange peels, an LED light, flowers, cheese, popcorn kernels, and even glue.

Accidentally swallowing objects led to a significant number of visits to the emergency room. Some of the objects ingested included a steak knife, small flashlight, glue stick, pet toys, coins, office supplies, cigarettes, aluminum foil, hair clips, keys, and darts, as reported by Fox News.

Foreign objects stuck in men’s and women’s genitalia

Men and women also ended up in the emergency room after inserting objects into their genital areas.

For men, some of the foreign objects found included sex toys, beads, paper clips, coins, a car key, a pencil, a nail, a ceiling fan chain, a cell phone charger, and even a wooden spoon.

As for women, among the items discovered included coins, a screw, a pen, a drumstick, a flashlight, a drinking cup, a golf ball, a nail polish bottle, and even a spatula.

Furthermore, certain items were found in rectums, including sex toys, spoons, magnets, bottles, crayons, wrenches, action figures, a vegetable peeler, candles, a fishing pole, and even an ice cream cone, as reported by Fox News.
