The Weeknd has surpassed all other musicians to become the most popular performer in the history of the music industry, as documented by Guinness World Records. After reviewing the data that Spotify obtained from some of the most well-known individuals in the music industry, the company made the revelation on Monday.

The organization took into account the total number of monthly listeners that each artist had accumulated on the streaming platform. Abel Tesfaye, known by his stage name The Weeknd, held the record for being the first and only artist in the history of Spotify to exceed 100 million monthly listeners at the end of February.

His remarkable accomplishment places him at the front of the pack, and he has continued to attract a growing number of streaming fans ever since then. The most recent Guinness survey estimates that he now has an astounding 111.4 million listeners on a monthly basis.

Who’s Next on the List of Most Popular Artists?

Miley Cyrus, who presently has 82.4 million monthly listeners, comes in at number two on the list of most popular artists. Cyrus’s rise to fame coincided with the release of her eighth album, Endless Summer Vacation, which had been eagerly anticipated.

Shakira takes a slot with 81.6 million monthly listeners, followed by Ariana Grande with 80.6 million, Taylor Swift with 80.2 million, Rihanna with 78.5 million, and Ed Sheeran with 77.5 million monthly listeners.

Accomplishments of The Weeknd

Recently, The Weeknd was honored with four Juno Awards in his home country of Canada, including artist of the year and composer of the year for a record fourth time each. In addition, he was awarded the title of pop album of the year for his work with Dawn FM and won single of the year for the third time with his popular song “Sacrifice” in 2022.

In addition to being recognized as the most popular artist in the world, The Weeknd has also achieved other notable accomplishments. Back in 2016, he was awarded two Guinness World Records titles. The first was for the most streamed album on Spotify in 2015 for his album “Beauty Behind the Madness.” The album received over 60 million streams, solidifying The Weeknd’s position as a music streaming powerhouse.

The second Guinness World Records title that The Weeknd received in 2016 was for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist. His hit song “Can’t Feel My Face” spent 33 weeks in the Top 10, while “The Hills” spent 27 weeks in the same chart position. This was a remarkable achievement and a testament to his talent as a singer and songwriter.

The accomplishments of The Weeknd are evidence of his brilliance as well as his widespread appeal among music enthusiasts all over the globe. The title of “Guinness World Record” firmly establishes him as a worldwide icon and secures his place in the history of the music business.

As The Weeknd continues to set new records and make music that is a commercial success, his fans can anticipate more wonderful things from him.
