Greek athlete George Kotsimpos broke the Guinness World Record for the most hand-release pushups in one minute by completing an outstanding 64 pushups in one minute in December.
He beat the previous record of 58 hand-release pushups in one minute by six repetitions.
Kotsimpos, who hails from Heraklion, Crete, had seriously injured his right arm only a few months before breaking the previous record, making the accomplishment even more impressive.
Compared to the standard version of the exercise, hand-release pushups are said to be more difficult.
Rather than keeping the hands firmly on the floor, hand-release pushups involve picking the hands up after every repetition.
Rather than spending his time in lockdown by binging Netflix on the couch or taking up knitting, Kotsimpos tirelessly trained to accomplish the impressive feat.
He trained with the “Iron Body” Project in Heraklion, whose athletes have broken four other Guinness World Records in the past.
Working through his injury, Kotsimpos managed to reach peak physical fitness, enabling him to show his athleticism on a world scale.
Monitored and video taped by a special team, Kotsimpos broke the record at the Iron Body training facility in December, as he was cheered on by friends and fellow athletes.
