Netflix has released the first trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which is a sequel to Knives Out, shot in Greece.
In the new film, Daniel Craig’s detective character Benoit Blanc returns to solve another murder. But this time, the crime takes place in Greece.
Edward Norton plays a tech billionaire named Miles Bron who invites his “nearest and dearest” friends on a trip to his private island in Greece. Someone turns up dead, of course, and Blanc is called in to help solve the case.
In addition to Craig and Norton, the cast includes Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.
The massive success of the first Knives Out
Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed the first Knives Out, returns in the same roles for the sequel.
The massive success of the first Knives Out, starring Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Colette, Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, and Katherine Langford, has created a niche for Johnson’s eccentric and rich take on murder mysteries in the vein of Agatha Christie novels.
“[I had] such a great time working with Daniel, and now just seeing that audiences are responding to it, the idea of continuing it on seems like it would just be a blast,” the writer-director said.
During filming in Greece in 2021, Johnson stoked excitement for the upcoming movie by tweeting an image of a camera framing the Greek scenery with the caption:
Aaaaaaaand WE’RE OFF! Day one of filming on the next Benoit Blanc mystery! Thanks to all the lovely patient people here in Greece for letting us do all this murdering on their peaceful shores.
