The fun and popular Gyro Eating Contest returns to Chicago on the third and final day of the Taste of Greektown festival on Sunday, August 28th.
Taste of Greektown Festival
The Taste of Greektown festival, now in its thirty-second year, is Chicago’s largest celebration of Hellenic cuisine and culture.
Running from Friday, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th along Halsted Street from Adams to Van Buren, the festival is presented by the Greektown Chamber of Commerce with additional support from Greektown SSA #16.
Organizers point out that the neighborhood’s acclaimed Greek restaurants are the stars of the show along with live music and entertainment, Greek dancing, unique shopping and retail, family friendly activities, and more.
The Greektown neighborhood of Chicago has been the epicenter of the city’s acclaimed Greek dining scene for decades, located along Halsted Street for sixty years.
It still has the largest concentration of Greek restaurants in Chicago, as well as many new establishments, and remains anchored by its celebration of heritage, community, and history.
Many restaurants and retail stores in Greektown are family-owned businesses that have been open for decades.
The contest is open to anyone twenty-one and older. Participation is limited to the first ten individuals who register.
