Joyce Timothy Radojcic, a French dancer who disappeared while visiting Athens nine months ago, was found dead on May 7.

The young man’s remains were found by children playing in the historic but decaying Mavromichalis Mansion, trapped inside a water tank.

The 27-year-old French dancer Joyce Timothy Radojcic traveled to visit Athens in July 2020, and was staying at a hotel near the Mavromichalis Mansion in Piraeus. By August 21, Radojcic had been declared missing.

Greek crime journalist Angeliki Nikolouli, who presents the hit show “Light in the Tunnel,” claims that Radojcic loved to do yoga and practiced meditation. He generally looked for places that he felt had a particular vibe or energy to practice his hobbies. On the day of his disappearance, he told an acquaintance that he was going to meditate.

Nine months later, children happened upon some human remains in the abandoned mansion. The children immediately raised the alarm following the sighting, notifying neighbors and the police.

The fire brigade came to collect the skeleton, and over the following two weeks it was DNA analyzed in order to determine that it was in fact Radojcic. His parents traveled to Greece in order to collect information and assist in the investigation.

“The family of the deceased is shocked. Since he had not given any sign of life for nine months, they had thought about the possibility that he is no longer alive, but when this thought becomes a fact, no parent is able to manage, said Charalambos Tsianakas, the lawyer representing Radojcic’s family.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine if it was an accident or homicide. The circumstances of his death remain unclear. Since there was no evidence found, Radojcic’s skeleton is now in expert’s hands. The location that the body was found may also bring to the surface other elements that will contribute significantly to the investigation of the case,”

Trapped for six to eight days

Angeliki Nikolouli revealed that Radojcic was likely trapped in the water tank for six to eight days, and died due to lack of food or water.

When the water tank was examined as part of a formal investigation, messages were found to have been carved into the walls of the tank. It is suspected these were left as a call for help by Radojcic, who may have used a sharp rock to write with.

One of the carvings allowed investigators to gather that he was alive in the tank for around eight days, as he carved “Here since 21.08.2020,” followed by eight tally marks which likely signify the days he spent while he was conscious.

He also left a message to his family carved in the walls of the tank, writing “Love you family, Papa, Rick, Tiffany,” which are the names of his siblings.

Radojcic was considering moving to Greece permanently, as a job application for a call center which hires foreign nationals was recovered among his personal effects.

Unfortunately, due to the level of disintegration of his remains, it is difficult for authorities to complete general and toxicology reports for the young man. It remains unclear whether or not there was foul play involved.
