The popular Santander Park in Santa Marta, Colombia, hosts a large number of restaurants, however, one of them, the ”Ouzo” restaurant stands out. Locals say that Ouzo is the best option of Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of local Colombian taste.

Chef Michael McMurdo, the Creator of ”Ouzo”

The ”Ouzo” restaurant takes its name from the popular Greek drink. Chef and owner Michael McMurdo showed great passion for fine dining and different types of cuisines from a young age.

He started his career at the age of 19, graduated with honors from the Institute Culinary Education, and later managed to build a great reputation. This led to him working in New York City at the renowned Michelin star Greek Restaurant Anthos.

In 2011, together with his two partners, McMurdo opened Ouzo in the historic city-center of Santa Marta, the oldest city in Colombia. The main characteristic of this area is that a large number of tourists visit it every year. This made the Parque de los Novios the ideal place for the new business, allowing tourists to experience the Mediterranean cuisine and culture first-hand.

”At first, we adapted to our customers, we were just starting out and the restaurant was not very successful. After a while, we were able to modify the menu and make it more in line with the initial proposal, make it more Mediterranean, more Greek” Cesar Mera, the restaurant manager, told Greek Reporter en Espanol in an exclusive interview.
