The victim of a brutal axe attack seven months ago passed away from his injuries on Saturday night in Thessaloniki.

The violent attack on a tax office in the northern Greek city of Kozani in July left the 56-year-old victim, an employee at the office, in a coma with severe brain injuries.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, the victim of the attack, who has not been named, could not be transported to a rehabilitation facility abroad and remained in a private clinic in Thessaloniki.

He was married and had a 15-year-old son.

The 45-year-old attacker, whose motive remains unknown, also attacked two women in the office with the axe before he was eventually tackled and subdued by two employees.

The axe-wielding man was arrested and charged with attempted murder for the attacks.
