Over 100 Deaths in Greece as New Covid Cases Number 2,199 Tuesday

A total of 2,199 new cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in Greece and the deaths of 111 people with the virus were announced on Tuesday. A total of 596 patients with Covid-19 are currently intubated in Greece’s intensive care units.
The ICUs around the country are under immense strain, particularly in northern Greece, due to the overwhelming number of patients with Covid-19 who require complicated treatment, such as intubation.
Tuesday’s 2,199 cases provide a stinging dose of reality to the country after its citizens celebrated Monday’s 1,044 recorded cases as a sign of hope and improvement in terms of dealing with the virus.
In total, 107,470 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic, including all those who have recovered from the virus. Of this total, 4,919 are associated with foreign travel and 28,590 with contact with a known case.
Of the 596 intubated patients, 75.8% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions. Their median age is 65, and 167 of the patients are female. A total of 597 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country.
The 111 new deaths recorded on Tuesday bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 2,517. Of all those who lost their lives after suffering with the virus, a total of 1,021 have been women.
The median age of those who passed away with Covid-19 is 80, and 96.6% of them were over the age of 70 or suffered from underlying health issues.
