Greek authorities raised the flag of Italy on public buildings in Athens on Friday, including the Parliament of the country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a rare move of solidarity with their suffering neighbors in Italy.
Speaker of the House Constantinos Tasoulas, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias as well as Italian ambassador to Greece Efisio Luigi Marras raised the Italian flag next to those of Greece and the European Union in a simple yet very moving ceremony which aimed to pay Greece’s respects to the unbelievable human tragedy being played out in the nation of Italy.

”Greece supports our friends, the Italian people, who are currently being tested by the pandemic,” the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a tweet.
Foreign Minister Dendias even began his speech today in Italian.
”Dear Italian friends, our history, our common past and the course we have taken together bring us here today; together once again. We are one next to the other for yet another battle; a victorious one, as always,” Dendias stated.
Italy is still experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe which has been unprecedented in recent times, with approximately 14,000 people having died so far as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
