The European Commission announced on Friday that it approved a 255-million-euro investment for the construction of a highway section in Thessaly, central Greece.
The Cohesion Fund resources of the EU will be used to complete the link between the cities of Lamia and Xyniada in central Greece, which will be part of the E65 European route, that begins in Malmö, Sweden and ends in Chania, Greece.
The part of the highway that will be constructed with EU funds will connect Central Greece and West Thessaly regions with the main network of E65.

European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira, who has been visiting Greece over the last two days, said that “the said project is tangible proof that the EU continues to invest in the improvement of infrastructure in Greece,” noting that the road will prove of benefit to residents, business owners and tourists alike.
The Lamia-Xyniada section is expected to be ready for use by December 2021.
