Indian Student on a Mission to Promote Thessaloniki's Beauty

An Indian student who fell in love with Thessaloniki is publishing an online English-language magazine to promote its beauty and vibrancy in India and the rest of the world.
26-year-old Kushal S. Mehta of the International University of Greece, who is doing a post-graduate degree in Tourism Studies, arrived in Thessaloniki two years ago.
“I fell in love with this city but found that, unfortunately, it is unknown to most foreigners, who only know Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos,” he says in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).
Mehta says he is impressed by the “beautiful and vibrant city, with its relaxed pace and the people who are always eager to help others.”

With the help of friends and volunteers, he recently published the first edition of the online SIG Magazine devoted to Greece’s second-largest city.
“We set up the magazine in order to inspire others to visit. My goal is to make the city known in even more countries because it’s really worth it.”
The irony is -he says- that as “locals want to leave for other countries, foreigners coming to Thessaloniki want to stay forever.”
As he prepares the second issue of the magazine, the Indian student says that he wants to build a “bridge between Greece and Asia”.
He appeals to all those who want to contribute, either to volunteer or to help through crowdfunding.
More than 5,000 people from 62 countries have so far glimpsed through the magazine, Mehta says.
