Acropolis Lift Back in Operation After Breakdown

A platform lift for disabled persons on Athens’ famed Acropolis Hill is again available to the public following repair work, Greece’s Ministry of Culture announced on Wednesday.
Installed in 2004 as part of an effort to make Athens more accessible during the Olympics and Paralympics, the cage-like elevator has become increasingly prone to mechanical failures.
It was revealed in June of this year that teachers were obliged to carry a disabled 12-year-old student on their shoulders in order for him to visit the Acropolis.
Officials this week said they are aiming for a new system to be installed in the near future.
