Acropolis Lift Back in Operation After Breakdown

A platform lift for disabled persons on Athens’ famed Acropolis Hill is again available to the public following repair work, Greeceā€™s Ministry of Culture announced on Wednesday.
Installed in 2004 as part of an effort to make Athens more accessible during the Olympics and Paralympics, the cage-like elevator has become increasingly prone to mechanical failures.
It was revealed in June of this year that teachers were obliged to carry a disabled 12-year-old student on their shoulders in order for him to visit the Acropolis.
Officials this week said they are aiming for a new system to be installed in the near future.
