Newly -elected Archbishop Elpidophoros of America on Wednesday sent his first letter to all the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese throughout the United States.
“I am coming to America not only to be your Archbishop, but your spiritual friend and your brother, your servant to the Lord, your partner to the Lord,” he said in the missive.
Elpidophoros was unanimously elected last week to become the new Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople.
His enthronement will take place at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New York City, on June 22.
“I convey to you my great desire to embrace all of you as spiritual children and to show you the love with which God filled my heart for the precious flock of the Archbishopric of America.
“I come near to you as your brother in Christ. On the 22nd of June, in my enthronement, I also hope to embrace our ecumenical and interfaith friends as well as the entire pluralist American society that serves the freedom of conscience and religious freedom with passion.
“This period is a period of hope and positive expectation for all of us. We have much to do together, and with the grace of God and His power, we will be certain winners,” Elpidophoros said in his message.
