Greek Defense Minister Evangelos Apostolakis expressed his concern about Turkey’s increasing provocations in the Aegean Sea during a news conference in New York on Wednesday night.
Apostolakis said that an accident is possible due to Turkey’s behavior in the Aegean Sea. This could lead to an ”incident,” as he termed it, referring to a possible military confrontation between the two countries.
The Greek defense minister expressed his belief that Turkey has adopted an erratic way of behaving, and has been showing aggression.
Apostolakis noted, however, that the Greek armed forces are ready to deter any aggressive movements.
Greece’s armed forces are there to deter and maintain peace and stability in the region; however, if it’s necessary, they will be used,” Apostolakis noted, adding that Turkey needs to ”get serious.”
Apostolakis’ remarks came only a few days after Monday’s serious incident occurring over the Aegean Sea, when the helicopter carrying Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was harassed by Turkish jets.
