UN to Honor the Ionian Islands’ Cuisine in Vienna

The United Nations announced on Friday that its employees at the Vienna offices will have the chance to taste recipes from the cuisine of the Ionian islands for a week starting Monday, February 11.

Traditional recipes from the islands, also known in Greek as “the Heptanese islands” (from the word “hepta” or “seven”), will be prepared by local Greek chefs of the Ionian and the dishes will be available to more than 4,500 UN employees originating from 130 countries.

The traditional Greek Ionian cuisine will be presented at the restaurant of the UN offices in the Austrian capital.

Besides tasting traditional Ionian island dishes, the employees will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the region through promotional tourist material such as posters, leaflets, and videos.

These will be available at a designated area of the restaurant.

This initiative, according to what the state-run AMNA news agency reports, aims to make the Western Greek traditions known to a high-economic-level target group, prompting them to visit one of the Ionian islands of Greece.
