Angelos Chrysovalantis Alfatzis is a Greek who, along with his colleagues, designed the premises of a future European establishment on the moon.
Alfatzis’ team, which is also comprised of engineers and biologists, has already been distinguished by the European Space Agency (ESA) during a competition last year.
The team created a mock-up of the ESA’s premises inside a lunar crater, something that is planned to be done inside Europe’s future base on the moon.
As the ESA’s main objective is to use local material, Alfatzis’ job was to find out ways to design architectural elements using lunar material.
The ESA plans to create premises that will be hospitable for humans, protecting them from the moon’s atmosphere, temperatures and harmful radiation.
Alfatzis is a graduate of the Department of Interior Architecture, Decorative Arts and Design of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design, of the Higher Technological Institute (TEI) of Athens.
