Greek Fireman Offers Own Home to Blaze Victims

A Greek fireman has offered his own home for any family, victim of the devastating fires east of Athens.
In a touching Facebook post, Ioannis Katsioulas says that he was moved by the heroic efforts of his colleagues fighting the blaze and helping save people and property in the resort of Mati.
“I will offer my last breath in the service if required,” he adds.
“I offer my house in the village of Kastania in the prefecture of Pieria to a family of fire victims as long as required,” he vows.
Katsioulas is a seasonal fireman, working only some months of the year, when the fire hazard is at its greatest.
For his efforts, his gets a monthly cheque of 652 euros ($763), a copy of which he posted on his Facebook page to make the point that firefighters who risk their lives to save people are grossly underpaid.
