Joanna Kalafatis is a colleague at Greek Reporter, but she is also an actress and a well regarded travel blogger, included in a list of “Top 40 Travel Bloggers to Follow in 2018“.
The list, compiled by Mediarail, includes 40 female or couples’ travel blogs from around the world, does not reflect any sort of ranking, but contains only blogs “curated to show top quality material and value.”
Obsessed with travel ever since she can remember herself, Joanna Kalafatis created Lose the Map in order to share her adventures, thoughts and lessons learned along the way. Her goal when traveling is to get into local life and local culture as much as possible. She has already visited 37 countries in three different continents.
She loves walking and biking around cities as much as she can; staying with locals, eating with locals, and drinking with locals to really get to know a culture; trying to learn some basics in even a language as tough as Japanese, both to show some respect to the country she’s in, and also to get to know people better so she can find the cool local spots she never could otherwise.
“Most of all, Lose the Map is about finding and sharing stories,” Joanna writes on her blog. “Whether it’s people on the road doing interesting things, the history of a neighborhood, the culture of a city, what it’s like to fly a plane, the habits of a geisha, I try to discover and share the intriguing and unique wherever I go.”
Born in New York and having spent her early childhood in Greece, Joanna is also an accomplished actress with her own IMDB page and a contributor to Greek Reporter, writing stories about Hollywood of interest to the Greek diaspora.
