American Ambassador to Greece Chastises Koufodinas Prison Furlough

US Ambassador to Athens, Jeffrey Pyatt has added his voice of dissent to those of the Greek opposition parties, against the 48-hour prison furlough issued to convicted 17 November terrorist, Dimitris Koufodinas.
“I add my voice to those from across Greeceā€™s political spectrum deploring prison council decision to release a convicted terrorist, murderer & N17 leader. Our democracies rest on independent judicial institutions, but todayā€™s furlough dishonors the victims memory & their families,” Mr. Pyatt wrote on his official Twitter account.
In his tweet, the American ambassador posted a photo of a board located in the embassy, with the names of all its employees who have lost their lives in Greek terrorist incidents. The board, dated from 1998, includes a famous ancient quote from Greek historian Thucydides.

Almost all opposition parties, including New Democracy, PASOK and To Potami, have condemned the Koufodinas prison furlough, while the ruling SYRIZA party has said that the Prison Council was responsible for the controversial decision.
