Elina Psykou’s “Son of Sofia” has won an incredibly high honor at the Tribeca Film Festival, taking home the award for “Best Film” in the International Narrative Feature Competition.
The variety and quality of films on display in the International Feature Competition at Tribeca this year was truly staggering, but in the end, Psykou’s moving and thoughtful story about a young boy named Misha, who moves to Athens from Russia in order to be with his mother Sofia, won over the festival audience and judges.
“Son of Sofia” explores many thought-provoking issues, including the challenge of creating a new identity and adapting to a new family and a new country, as well as Misha’s transformation and experience at a very critical age.
