Greek-Australian Kayla Itsines Inspires Online Followers to Break Five Guinness World Records

kayla_guinIf you have ever wondered what the Guinness World Record for the most people working out together, doing various exercises is, look no further. Greek-Australian Kayla Itsines helped inspire thousands to participate in making history on November 17 in the CBD of Melbourne.

Alongside her partner and CEO of the Bikini Training Company, Itsines, a personal trainer and fitness guru whose family originates from the Greek island of Kos, invited her social media followers and fans to work up a sweat together in Melbourne’s Olympic Park.

kalylamainThe crowd swelled to over 2,200 participates know as the “BBG (Bikini Body Guide) community” simultaneously performed workouts in front of Solvej Malouf, the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records. In all the group broke five Guinness World Records in less than an hour.

The records set by the BBG community are as follows:
Most people performing star jumps: 2,192 participants
Most people running on the spot simultaneously: 2,195 participants
Most people doing sit-ups simultaneously: 2,005 participants
Most people performing lunges: 2,146 participants
Most people performing squats: 2,201

Kayla was very proud of the achievement of her followers and told neoskosmos.com that “Working as a team to not just achieve our fitness goals but also break these records today really proves that we are the largest and most influential fitness community in the world.”
