2 Greek Athletes Banned from the Olympic Games for Doping

olympic-gamesOne day before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2016, in Rio, Brazil, a Greek athlete was banned by the Hellenic National Council for Combating Doping. The swimmer had already travelled to Rio when she was informed that she did not pass the test and was asked to leave.
Furthermore, it is reported that an athlete of the Paralympic team might also have tested positive. However, the members of the team are still in Greece since the Paralympic Games will take place in September.
The Cyprus Olympic Committee was also forced to send Antonis Martasidis, weightlifting athlete, back home after he also tested positive for doping. In the past Martasidis had represented Greece, but since getting engaged to a Greek-Cypriot he has become a Cypriot citizen.
