The Summer's First Heat Wave Hits Greece

heat waveThis Friday marks the first heat wave in Greece for the summer of 2016.
Temperatures in northern Greece will reach upwards of 36 degrees celsius on Friday, and the parts of the mainland are expected to see the mercury soar to 37 to 39 degrees by midday. However, the Greek islands are expected to only reach about 34 degrees celsius.
With little comfort from non-existent clouds and breeze across most of the country, the beating sun is to cause Athens to reach upwards of 38 degrees by midday. Only in the most Eastern parts of Aegean will some relief be felt by late afternoon winds predicted to reach 6 beaufort.
The heat wave is going to last over the weekend and into next week as the mercury on the mainland of northern Greece will climb 36 to 38 degrees. The remainder of Greece is predicted to reach a scorching 40 to 41 degrees celsius.
By Monday a small drop is expected in the northern and western regions of Greece, however, temperatures of 38 to 40 degrees will hit the rest of the country.
The temperature increase will last through next Thursday.
