The Police Director of Chios, Andreas Damiris signed a resignation letter, citing “personal reasons.” Reports however, indicate that he decided to step down due to the ongoing refugee crisis on the island.
According to a piece by local Chios news site “politischios.gr,” the Police Director decided to step down due to the “profound” conditions on the island, the lack of state support or planning from the Police.
Politischios.gr also mentions that despite the efforts of Damiris’ colleagues to talk him out of his decision, the Police Director is determined and awaits for his resignation to be accepted.
The outgoing director will temporarily be replaced by Police Director Dimitris Avgerinos.
