Greek Opposition Parties React to IMF Wikileaks on Greek Bailout

wikiPrime Minister Alexis Tsipras contacted opposition leaders on the issue of the wikileaks regarding Greece’s bailout and plans the strategy for the negotiations with creditors.
According to an Ethnos newspaper report on Sunday, Tsipras is very angry at the International Monetary Fund officials over their alleged talks on a “credit event”. Adding the Brexit issue to the equation, the prime minister told his staff that, “[The Wikileaks] create a major geopolitical problem. It seems that some people play dangerous destabilization games behind our back. We will not allow Thomsen to tear down Europe.”
Tsipras contacted opposition leaders, House Speaker Nikos Voutsis and President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos to inform them on the situation. The latter reiterated his belief that the IMF should no longer be part of the Greek bailout program and that the European Stability Mechanism should take its place. The prime minister is also planning to discuss the issue with European officials.
PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata criticized both the IMF and the government’s handling of the bailout negotiations. Gennimata called on IMF to take a clear stance on the issue, while reiterating that Greece needs an ecumenical government.
Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis called on the coalition to take advantage of the contrasting positions of the country’s lenders, arguing that the differences between the IMF and European creditors might benefit Greece. However, he said, the Greek government is incapable of negotiating.
Centrists’ Union chief Vassilis Leventis stated that the country needs an ecumenical government because the ruling coalition lacks a plan on the difficult challenges Greece is facing.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis did not take position on the issue.
According to a source close to the government, Tsipras is waiting to see Germany’s position on the Wikileaks and the IMF’s stance on negotiations. While the Fund insists on a debt haircut, Germany and the other European Union member states insist that there won’t be a haircut but debt easing only.
