Varoufakis: SYRIZA Will Dwindle Back to 4% in Greece

varoufakisFormer Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis said that Greece’s ruling party SYRIZA will dwindle from 40 percent to 4 percent.
Varoufakis gave an interview to The Economist where he predicts the fall of the Alexis Tsipras party: “There is no doubt about it. It will collapse. It is the new PASOK. I don’t know what will replace SYRIZA but this party has no future,” he said.
The economics professor clarified that the leftist party is not collapsing because it went against the rules of globalization, but because it accepted a fiscal policy that cannot work out.
Varoufakis reiterated his position that Greece’s European partners didn’t even want to discuss the proposals of the first SYRIZA administration because “they didn’t want to send Spain, Ireland and Portugal the message that they can elect a government that would implement its own ideas.”
The former minister also said that European Central Bank President Mario Draghi would never let Greece exit the euro zone because that would put him in a difficult situation as well.
He also said that three or four people close to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras were the ones who accepted the impossible to implement measures dictated by creditors. “I had not foreseen that. If I had foreseen it, I wouldn’t accept to be in the government,” Varoufakis said.
