About 9,000 Refugees Stranded at Greece-FYROM Border

Idomeni4About 9,000 refugees are stranded on the Greece-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border waiting anxiously to cross in order to continue their journey to northern Europe.
Greece’s neighbor has closed its border allowing only 30 people to cross on Monday. Enraged refugees tried to tear down the wire fence, with FYROM police responding with tear gas and stun grenades, with about a dozen refugees injured.
Four trains of the Greek Railway Organization (TRAINOSE) are trapped on the line waiting to cross to FYROM as authorities of the neighboring country keep the line closed with an iron gate in fear that refugees might try to cross on the railroad line.

At the same time, there are six trains on the FYROM side waiting to cross to Greece but they are blocked for the same reason.
At the Idomeni refugee camp more refugees and migrants arrive each day, reaching an estimated 9,000 people. Some are waiting for 10 days now, with the question “when is the border going to open” on everyone’s lips.
