Greek Coast Guard Detains Turkish Nationals for Human Trafficking

refugees1-630x400The Hellenic Coast Guard apprehended two Turkish nationals on Monday, suspected of assisting the trafficking of Syrian refugees to the Greek islands.
According to Greek media, the men were caught facilitating the smuggling of 14 Syrian refugees to the Greek island of Kalymnos. “The two men set off at dawn on January 11 from the Turkish town of Bodrum in a seven-meter speed boat, in which they were allegedly smuggling the refugees,” Doğan News Agency reported.
The Hellenic Coast Guard spotted the two boat captains, aged 28 and 34, during their return journey to Bodrum. They attempted to escape but were unsuccessful. In the end, they were stopped and apprehended.
The two Turkish nationals were led to the Kalymnos police station shortly after the incident.
