Bad Loans in Greek Banks Reach 45%, Debtors Resume Regular Repayments

reuters-ti-fobountai-oi-ellinikes-trapezes.w_lBad loans in Greek banks have reached 45 percent of loans after capital controls were imposed at the end of June, says a Kathimerini report.
The percentage of bad loans was 40.8 at the end of the first quarter of 2015. A bad loan is defined as credit more than 90 days in arrears. Capital controls have led many debtors to default on their payments.
Only about 15 percent of debtors who were repaying their loans regularly in the past serviced their loans during the period when banks were closed, says the daily newspaper report.
However, in August, when banks were open, albeit still under capital controls, about 80 percent of borrowers resumed timely repayments.
