European Commission Expects Greece to Respect Bailout Commitments

Jean-Claude JunckerEuropean Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has sent a congratulatory letter to Greece’s new caretaker Prime Minister Vassiliki Thanou. Thanou is expected to stay in office until the September 20 election.
“The European Commission is happy to see continuity in key portfolios. We see this as a good sign for the implementation of the agreed program,” noted European Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas. “What matters now is that there is full backing for the program and timely delivery of the reforms contained in the program for its success,” he added.
Furthermore, in his letter, Juncker also stressed the importance of tackling the migrant issue in Greece. “The EU is also involved in handling unprecedented migration flows. As you know, the Commission put forward an ambitious European Agenda for Migration back in May 2015, based on the principles of solidarity and responsibility. This Agenda is being rolled out and we are assisting member-states, notably Greece, in dealing with this urgent priority on a daily basis,” the President wrote.
