An important step regarding the bilateral relations between Cyprus and France was taken by the Cypriot Education and Culture Minister Costas Kadis and his French counterpart Fleur Pellerin. In a scheduled meeting in France on Friday the two ministers agreed to finally enforce the cultural cooperation agreement signed by the governments of the two countries in 1994.
According to an official announcement, the two ministers met on the sidelines of the UNESCO ministerial meeting held in Paris. Specifically, both said the agreement, which has remained inactive in the past few years, should be enhanced with issues of mutual interest. They also took stock of the excellent relations between the two countries with regard to culture. Mr. Kadis and Mrs. Pellerin discussed the need to strengthen culture strategies in the context of the program “Europe 2020” and talked about the possibility of undertaking initiatives with other European partners, aiming at strengthening the cultural diversity in Europe. Furthermore, they agreed that both countries would set up expert teams in order to prepare the content of the new agreement.
Finally, the Cypriot Minister invited his French counterpart to visit Cyprus.
