PM Samaras: Greece Begins Economic Recovery, Especially in Tourism

Samaras_pita Greece is now on a course of economic recovery, especially in tourism where it is expected to excel, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said while visiting the island of Rhodes on Friday. The Greek Premier met with representatives of local authorities, productive classes and the tourism sector at the Southern Aegean Regional Authority’s offices.
Samaras had earlier met with regional governor George Hatzimarkos, Rhodes mayor Fotis Hatzidiakos, the head of the Hoteliers’ Union, Antonis Kambourakis, and New Democracy candidates in the January 25 elections. The meeting focused on a number of issues and problems the Greek islands face.
“We discussed the islands’ problems in depth and especially those relating to tourism,” Samaras told representatives of island associations, while emphasizing the importance of tourism and its special momentum for the recovery of Greece’s economy.
“Tourism will sweep everything before it but the problem is which channel will you guide it into,” the Prime Minister said, noting that the prerequisites for visitors were security, stability, credibility and the quality of the tourism product on offer, among others.
“We solve problems without pompous words and in collaboration with [sector] agencies,” he added.
Later on Friday, at 5:30 pm, Samaras is scheduled to deliver a speech at a Rhodes hotel, in the context of New Democracy’s pre-election campaign.
