A 27-year-old Turkish citizen of Greek origin, Theodoros Mastikopoulo, went missing on August 25. His family and friends launched a social media campaign in order to find him. On Thursday, September 18, however, police presented the family of the 27-year-old man with images from security cameras near the area of Bosphorus. They show the young man jumping from a bridge into the water. Theodoros’ father has stated that his son lived a full life for 27 years and has no idea why he would commit suicide.
Theodoros Mastikopoulo was seen for the last time at a shopping center in the European section of Istanbul on the night of August 25. His whereabouts thereafter were unknown. On the same day, the 27-year-old wrote on his Twitter feed, “Flying must be beautiful.”
Friends and family of the unfortunate youth launched a Twitter campaign in order to find him, using the hashtag “#TheodorosMastikopoulo”. After the announcement of the tragic news, Twitter filled with condolence messages to his family and friends.
