Eurobarometer: 51% of Greeks Feel Detached from Europe

Eurobarometer GreeceAbout 65% of European citizens believe that they are contributing members of the wider European Community. However, in some countries the number is significantly lower.

According to preliminary data of a survey conducted by Eurobarometer and released by the EU, citizens in three countries feel detached from the European Union. Bulgarians rank first place at a surprising 53%, closely followed by Greece at 51% and Italy at 50%.

The main issues that concern the citizens of these three countries and make them feel detached from their European identity are the economy, unemployment, and the feeling that their voice is not being heard in the European Parliament in Brussels because they believe that decisions are mostly affected by the policies of the northern European countries.
