Greek Politicians Praise National Team After World Cup Exit

samaras-ethniki-omadaPrime Minister Antonis Samaras has congratulated Greece’s national soccer team after its second round exit at the World Cup in Brazil and his government has pledged to build a new training center for the team.
“All Greeks are proud of our national team,” Samaras said in a brief message after Greece lost to Costa Rica on penalties. “Congratulations to all the boys.”
On his part, Government Vice President, Foreign Minister and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos sent his congratulations to the Greek players “We congratulate and thank our national team, our footballers and all those who contributed, for their nice game, which took us to this point. For their fighting spirit and their sporting quality…their tenacity and the dignity they showed inside and outside the play field.”
Deputy Culture and Sports Minister Yiannis Andrianos made the following statement after the end of the match: “Despite this night’s result which was determined at the penalties shoot-out, every Greek fan should be proud of the Greek team’s successful presence in Brazil’s World Cup.”
