The number of tourists visiting the Samaria Gorge increased by 25% in August compared to last year, according to information from the Forest Directorate of Chania.
In total, 29,238 people visited the Gorge of Samaria, with the vast majority selecting the entrance from Xyloskalo of Mount Omalos. The number of visitors from the entrance in Xyloskalo in August was 26,309 while the entrance in Agia Roumeli was visited by 2,929 people.
In July, visitors to the gorge were about 27,100, while in the two months of the high season the number of visitors reached 56,338.
Most visitors cross the canyon throughout the16 km route.
