New IMF Resident Rep Raised in Thessaloniki

MAK_GROU_266_355The American philellene Wes McGrew, is to be the new IMF Resident Representative in Greece, from September 2013 taking the place of Dutch Bob Traa.
McGrew was raised in Thesaloniki as his father Dr. William McGrew was president of Anatolia College for 25 consecutive years.
Furthermore, according to information, McGrew visited Athens at the end of July looking for a house.
Therefore, the real reason why this time the IMF in fact chose a philhellene, was through this movement to erase the very negative impressions that Bob Traa left in Athens.
A person familiar with what is really going on at the headquarters of the Fund in Washington, highlights however that neither philhellenic feelings nor knowledge of the language and history of Greece will change IMF’s attitude towards the country.
During his career at the IMF, Wes McGrew also served as Chief of the IMF mission both in Skopje and Cyprus, before being chosen as the next IMF Resident Representative in Greece.
