Greece Wants U.S. Answer On Spying

ypourgeioExwterikwn_533_355After the revelations by international media that Greece is among the countries that have been closely watched by the US National Security Agency (NSA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece is demanding an explanation from its ally why it reportedly happened.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Constantinos Koutras reported that Greece cannot understand why the U.S. would take to snooping on its friends after reports the NSA was eavesdropping on the goings-on in the Greek Embassy in Washington, D.C., and Greece’s mission at the United Nations.
He noted that “necessary clarifications will be requested” depending on the investigation’s results by the Greek services. Answering a reporter’s question about the reports, Koutras stressed out that Greece has absolute respect for International Law’s provisions that govern the operating regime of the Diplomatic and Consular Authorities.
He noted that “the content of the journalistic reports in question, the investigation of which has already started by the competent Greek Services will be carefully considered. He added that, “Greece cannot comprehend the media reports regarding monitoring of Greek and other diplomatic missions by the Services of a country that is a friend and ally.”
