Stamatopoulos Says Ties Tight With Bulgaria

Stam“No matter the economic and political difficulties  that Greece and Bulgaria face at the moment, their bilateral friendship  and cooperation will not be hampered,” Greece’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Thrasyvoulos Stamatopoulos, said in an interview with the Bulgarian English-speaking magazine Vagabond.

During the interview, which had the title From Greece with Optimism, he added that, “Greece regains its self-confidence after the tremendous efforts of its people.  With the beginning of a successful touristic season we want to mark the end, slowly but steadily, of recession”.

He stressed that Greece and Bulgaria should remain close. “Greece remains a safe and hospitable country for all the visitors and of course for our Bulgarian friends. According to the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, this year more than 17 million visitors will come to Greece, compared to 16 million tourists that came last year.

“The surveys show a rise in the arrivals from United Kingdom by 20 percent and from Germany, France and Scandinavia by 15 percent. In addition, there is an increase in air charter flights after a the rising demand from Russia, Ukraine, Israel and Turkey,” Stamatopoulos added.

Regarding the tourist prospects of the forthcoming summer, the Greek ambassador also underlined that, “It is obvious that Greece’s image changes to the better. We have managed to combine places with natural beauty and cultural interest with high level services and competitive prices”.
