images104The Academy of Athens is holding an event from March 8 to 10, titled The Greek language yesterday, today, tomorrow. The event was jointly organized by the Association of Regions (ENPE), the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) and the Greek Linguistic Heritage.
The event focuses on language not just as a means of communication, but also as a direct connection to the soul and identity of Greeks, as well as to their cultural and historical continuity. The event is under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, who was also a founding member and former president of the Association for the Greek Linguistic Heritage.
It will be attended among others, by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Archbishop Jerome of Athens and All Greece, representatives of political parties who are members of the Greek Linguistic Heritage, former presidents of the Republic, parliamentarians, academics, deans and other personalities who represent the political, social and spiritual life of the country.
Among other speakers, are distinguished Greek and foreign Hellenists, scientists and intellectuals, such as Spanish Hellenist F. R Adrados, professor of linguistics at the University of Madrid, academic, foreign member of the Academy of Athens as well as editor of the Ancient Greek-Spanish dictionary, K. Crnkovic a classical philologist and Hellenist as well,  K. Despotopoulos, emeritus professor of philosophy at Panteion University, former president of the Academy of Athens and former Education Minister, and N. Konomis, emeritus professor of Classical Philology at the University of Thessaloniki and former president of the Academy of Athens
