Greek-Cypriots Flee to Arab Countries For Jobs

mayriergasia__mainWith unemployment rising in crisis-crunched Cypriot, which needs a 17 billion euros ($22.72 billion) bailout, many Greek Cypriots are leaving for nearby Arab countries in search of work, especially Bahrait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The journal Phileleftheros said construction companies operating in Arab countries, are looking for qualified personnel to work on major projects.
One of the largest construction companies of Cyprus, Lois Builders, announced that it is looking for staff to work in a project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The company is looking for qualified employees to cover 14 job positions along with other needed staffing.
A representative of the Company said there is a growing interest by many Greek Cypriots  in working abroad regardless they are employed as they are searching for higher-paying positions.
In Riyadh, Doha and Manama several large companies, including J&P, are operating. Many Greek Cypriots are working in Greek companies operating in Arab countries and there is fierce competition with Greeks as some jobs offer salaries of more than $100,000 annually.
