According to a Der Spiegel report, Greeks, Spanish and Poles demand investment opportunities and safety for their money.
An advertisement of a real estate office in an area around Hamburg says: “Greeks buy only from privates.” The office referred to guaranteed discretion, while at the same time another real estate office was plugging “ways to save your money from Gauk, Merkel, Schauble and the other Mafiozo.”
The report says that 1/3 of the estate and flat buyers in Germany are from abroad. Moreover, foreign investors, in contrast to Germans, pay in cash.
Der Spiegel highlights that the fact investors prefer German cities is due to low estate prices in comparison to the prices in Paris, Milan or Bologna. It also makes it clear that: “not only the rich Greeks buy in Berlin, but also many ‘family men’, who want to buy an apartment for their children studying in a place where the purchase of real estate is rising.”
