Lanthimos’ “Alps” Named One of the Best 10 Films in 2012

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Alps,” a story about the afterlife, has been receiving critical acclaim and accolades in its year-long festival run, winning awards at the Venice, Sofia International and Sydney Film Festivals. It can now add “One of the 10 Best Films of 2012” to that list.

The Guardian released its top 10 finest films of the year, and included “Alps” at Number 9. The publication called it “fiendish…fluid…possibly unstable; a precious memory that turns around and bites.”

The film stars Aggeliki Papoulia, Stavros Psyllakis, Aris Servetalis and Johnny Vekris.

Greece submitted Lanthimos’ previous film, “Dogtooth,” for Oscar consideration, and it was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 83rd Academy Awards. It didn’t win, but brought attention to Lanthimos’ filmmaking.

“Alps” is being released on DVD today.
