Greece May Opt out of Eurovision

Following the example of Portugal and Poland, Greece may not take part in the Eurovision 2013 song contest because of its excessive cost.
Government spokesperson Simos Kedikoglou said that: “Greece should withdraw in 2013 from the Eurovision Song Contest depicting the popular sentiment.” This statement shocked the Eurofan world.
Johnny Kalimeris, Executive Member of the Board at ERT, stated to esctoday.com that although the final decision will be made shortly, it is highly unlikely that the country will be able to take part this year.
It is noteworthy that a few days ago, both Poland and Portugal announced that they will withdraw from the 2013 Eurovision song contest due to financial obstacles.
Portugal’s public television representatives referred to adverse financial problems resulting from the current financial crisis. Poland did not participate last year in Eurovision and will not participate in 2013 either.
The same view has been expressed by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation representatives  who said that: “given the current economics of Cyprus, some might consider as challenging the presence of RIK in such an event.”
