Papathanasiou Plays Iphigenia in Aulis

Myrto Papathanasiou is going to play the role of Iphigenia, starring in Christoph Willibald von Gluck’s new opera production Iphigenia in Aulis. The premiere will be held at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.

Composed by Alessandro de Marchi, directed by Torsten Fischer and set by Vasilis Triantafylopoulos and Herbert Shepherd, Myrto Papathanasiou will be performing in this traditional theater until November 22.

Born in Larissa, where she pursued her studies in piano and music theory at a local conservatory, Papathanasiou received her Monody diploma from the National Conservatory of Thessaloniki. She received a scholarship from the Concert Hall and finished her studies in Milan as a student of Roberto Kovielo.

Papathanasiou’s repertoire ranges from Baroque to modern compositions. She has made many records on Mozart and Rossini and has also cooperated with famous directors such as Zeffirelli, Karsen, Macvikar and distinguished conductors such as Ficher, Gelmetti, Pinto and Karidis.
