Greek-Australian Charged In Cyprus Murders

A Greek-Australian citizen has been arrested in Athens and charged with taking part in the murder of five men in Ayia Napa, Cyprus last June 23.

The identity of the suspect remains unknown so far. The Greek police arrested him based on a warrant from Cypriot authorities.

Four of the victims worked as security guards for Famagusta businessman Phanos Kalopsidiotis and police authorities said they believe that he was the target of the attack.

Three Cypriots aged 28, 33 and 35, and two Romanians aged 25 and 33, were killed when their car was sprayed with bullets while it was driving alone a well-traveled side road of Ayia Napa.

Two other alleged perpetrators, both Greek, were also apprehended on Cyprus, where they will stand trial for the killings.
