“Heart of Greece” Beats in Bologna

Cultural festival “Cuore di Grecia” (Heart of Greece in English) opens its gates in Bologna, Italy on July 12 through the 29.

According to the program presented by the Greek Embassy in Italy, seven dance schemes, 12 modern Greek movies, three Greek music nights with several DJs will be presented in Bologna. Furthermore,  12 “Letters from Greece” will be read in public. These letters, sent by eminent scientists and citizens, describe Greek culture but also the country’s current financial and social situation.

As for the cinema section, the festival will feature  deceased Greek director Theodore Angelopoulos as well as his beloved co-partner who also died recently, Italian scriptwriter Tonino Guerra.

Dogtooth directed by Yiorgo Lanthimos, Strella by Panos Koutras, Paradise by Panayiotis Fafoutis and Wasted Youth by Argyris Papadimitropoulos and Jan Vogel will also be presented in Bologna. All these films have been awarded several international prizes.

Artists of the “Oktana Dance Theatre” by Constantinos Rigos will be on stage with the “Dressed Undressed” performance. “Amalgama Dance Company” will focus on political and ethnic identity issues with their “The Body” dance but also the “Rootlessroot” team will make a spiritual trip via the body’s movements with their “Eyes in the Colors of the Rain.”

Greek DJs Tareq, Moire Patterns and Ekkohaus will also accompany the festival with their music selections.

“Cuore di Grecia” along with the Greek community of Emilia Romagna have also organized a gastronomic trip to Greece. Any money raised by this event will be provided to residents of Emilia Romagna hit by the earhquake .
