Archaeology Magazine Features Greek Archaeologist from the University of Missouri

In a five-page-long article, Archaeology Magazine features Michael Cosmopoulos, a Greek archaeologist working for the University of Missouri-St. Louis. For over a decade, the Greek USA-based professor has been visiting his homeland to do excavations along with students of his and volunteers in an area in the middle of an olive grove in southwestern Greece, called Iklaina, Pylos.

This summer, the Karakas Family Foundation donated the Professor of Greek Studies at the UMSL a significant amount of money to continue his work. When the Greek professor and his team received the sponsorship, they returned to the Messenia prefecture to search for more ancient findings, mostly of the Mycenaean Age.

The article entitled “The Birth of Bureaucracy” is published in the July/August issue of Archaeology Magazine.

Some time ago, a discovery made by Cosmopoulos and his team was declared one of the top 10 discoveries of 2011 by the Greek press. They discovered a tablet considered to be the oldest extant written record of all Europe.
