Vassilis ChitosĀ has beenĀ a crime news journalist for the past 15 years who decided to enter the elections as a candidate with Panos Kammenos’ new political party, Independent Greeks.
Independent Greeks has often discussed the subject of political transparency. Now, Kammenos has to face the problem that even his own political party gets financing from state services.
A Greek journalist published an article about the Chitos’ funding by the Hellenic National Service. Put simply, Chitos received 30,000 euros for his ‘service’ during the last six months of 2011.
The newspaper also published the receiptĀ for this transaction, signed by all three people involved – Director General of the NIS Konstantinos Mpikas, Manager of the NIS, and of course, Vassilis Chitos.
After the publication of the article, NIS spokesman marked it as “fake” and told the media that the receipt’s signatures have been forged.
The Independent Greeks reaction was the same. KammenosĀ and Chitos have not made any official statement yet, but another candidate of the party, K. Markopoulos saidĀ that the document is not true.
